After graduating from the Université de Montréal in film studies and from the National Theatre School of Canada, Montréal, in set design, André-Line Beauparlant worked as production designer on independent films. She was involved in the following productions: Un dimanche à Kigali (A Sunday in Kigali) by Robert Favreau, for which she won the Prix Jutra for the best production design; Camping sauvage (Happy Camper) by Guy A. Lepage; Gaz Bar Blues by Louis Bélanger; La moitié gauche du frigo (The Left Side of the Fridge) by Philippe Falardeau; Mariages (Marriages) by Catherine Martin; 20h17 rue Darling and La femme qui boit by Bernard Émond; Que Dieu bénisse l'Amérique (May God Bless America), Petit Pow! Beauparlant has also participated in several script reading committees and received two screenwriting grants. In 2000-2001, she made her first documentary, Trois princesses pour Roland. This film won two awards, Best Direction at Hot Docs in Toronto (2002) and the Prix Yolande and Pierre Perrault for most promising documentarist at the Rendez-Vous du Cinéma Québécois (2002). This film was also nominated for best documentary at the Jutra's.
Since shooting Trois princesses pour Roland, Beauparlant has made a documentary short called Elvis l'Italiano and, in 2004, did Le petit Jésus (Little Jesus), her second feature-length documentary, for which Hot Docs again awarded her Best Direction. This film was also nominated for best documentary at the Jutra's. Beauparlant has recently completed Panache, her third feature-length documentary.
