A film by Robert Morin and Lorraine Dufour
Synopsis
Drama, video, colour, 25 mins., 1988, Québec, Canada, OFV with English subtitles
Helena Valero was travelling with her parents, Brazilian settlers who were going to settle along a tributary of the Amazon, when she was kidnapped by a band of Yanomami. She was 12 when it happened, and 36 when she finally regained her freedom. Considered a foreigner by her kidnappers throughout her capitivity, her family called her an Indian when she finally returned to live among them with her three children. Condemned to alienation all her life, Helena returned to live in the forest of the Upper Orinoco, halfway between a Native village and an White one.
